About the Authors
Our language arts teacher, Frank W. Kadri, visited Edison gifted regional K-8 not so long ago. He observed a seventh-grade classroom there and was inspired by their program. Mr. Kadri thought a fun way to strengthen our writing and communication skills, would be to incorporate a student-run newspaper in our daily agenda.
As a 7/8th grade gifted classroom we are a hardworking, approachable, and responsible group of students. We love to try new things as a whole and learn from them. The school newspaper is a new experience that we look forward to working on together and we hope it benefits the school in the process.
Having this newspaper is the perfect way for us, students, to express our voice in this school and learn important skills that will assist us in the future. Writing this newspaper will help us in shaping our opinions, perspectives, writing skills, and ability to work with the class as a whole, which are all important qualities to have mastered when entering society. Being in a diverse and gifted classroom, we want to express our creativity, ideas, and critical thinking skills with the rest of the school. We have taken full responsibility of this newspaper, being 7/8th-grade students, and hope it will benefit not only the student body, but the parents, teachers, and staff.
This newspaper will be an entirely different way of showing how students of Ernst Prussing Elementary interact in the school. The administrators of the original Prussing website will be able to view the activities that are important to students in this school and include their interests and academic environment. We hope to make this a new way of interacting with students and a different way of informing parents and the community. This newspaper will be a very informative and valuable tool for parents to see not only what is happening in their child’s school, but as well as what they are learning in their classroom.
It will make it easier for parents to relate to their children and start conversations on student topics or events that are happening in our school. Most importantly, this newspaper will give a clear outlook on the most important part of this school: the students.
The Claw Chronicles will cover everything from academics to sports, focusing on the classroom life of the upper-grade students. Reviews will be written about the various functions happening throughout the school, as well as upcoming future events, including the 8th graduation.
Different sections of the paper will not only be written by 006, you can help too! Students will be allowed to send quotes, tips and tricks (smart and convenient ways to execute different things, and abstract questions that are sure to befuddle or deceive your mind), artwork (poetry, literature, etc.) and feedback or advice about the book reviews or editorials in the newspaper. Here is an email address ([email protected]), where you can send feedback or any of the previous options, just make sure to mention your name and room number in your email before sending. Just because you send in any of the previous options, does not mean that it will be featured in the newspaper. If we decide to feature your work in the newspaper your name and room number will be announced on the school intercom.
Our school newspaper will be updated every last Friday of the month. New information will be added, as well as events that are happening around the school that month. Read the monthly news so you don’t miss out on anything!
