NWEA
The spring NWEA has arrived! Students from first grade and up are all taking it and hoping they do good. Out of all the NWEAs, spring is the most important one. For the seventh graders it helps determine which high school they will be accepted into. During the award ceremony you are awarded an award if you are in the 90th percentile or show extreme growth from spring to spring. For the eighth grader’s if they get 90 percent or higher for either reading or math they will get an award signed by the president of the United States which is Donald J. Trump. |
Annex
On Wednesday February 1st, 2017 Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Alderman John Arena, State Representative Robert Martwick, the Chicago Public Schools, and the Chicago Public Building Commission announced the addition of an annex to Prussing School and other additions to schools on the north west side of Chicago. The new annex will provide six classrooms that include: Science Classroom, Computer Classroom, Music/Art Room, and a lunch/multipurpose room. Officials say the annex will cost about twenty four million dollars. The main reasons for the annex is the deterioration of the main building and lack of space for students. |
Jukebox Time Machine The Jukebox time machine was a success!! Directed by Mrs. Arnowitz, Mrs. Tagtmeier, and Mrs. Graham. The big performance occurred on Friday, May 19th, 2017 at 6:30 p.m! Gaining most of it's popularity by small kids, this musical was a must see for all ages. Student/child tickets were for $1, while adult tickets were $3. The singers and dancers worked long and hard to to remember all of the songs and dances and came out stronger than Mrs. Aronowitz could even think of. Although the show has already passed by, the catchy songs will forever get stuck in your head. There were a variety of songs from throughout the 1900s and 2000s. Some very popular songs included Splish Splash, Music Music Music, Dancing Queen, Don’t Stop Believing, Vogue, Breakaway, She Loves You, and It Don’t Mean A Thing If It Ain’t Got That Sing. An interesting fact, if some student didn’t know, is that some of these songs were written by Mrs. Arnowitz’s favorite Bands, The Beatles and Journey. Once again, a big thank you and congratulations to the directors, cast, and crew!!! G.R.E.A.T. Graduation G.R.E.A.T stands for Gang Resistance Education And Training. A former police officer, Officer Ramos, recently came to Prussing a few months ago to teach students about certain matters such as gangs, how to handle peer pressure situations, keeping your cool, etc. Students worked on their textbooks and were required to make an essay and presentation on how to make the school better. Students will be handed a medal and a certificate at the G.R.E.A.T Awards Ceremony at Prussing for all their hard work put into their G.R.E.A.T workbooks, essays, and presentations. |
Box Tops There is a box top contest in Prussing Elementary going on right now. Students are to collect box tops and give them to their teacher. When the bag or whatever the teacher is putting the box tops in is full they give it to the office and then that is added to the classroom’s score for the contest. Each box top is worth 10 cent and all of the money earned goes for the school. Right now in 1st place is Mrs. Garrity’s class, room 003. Fun in the Sun This year, Fun in the Sun will be hosted by the PTO on Thursday, May 25th. Fun in the Sun is a bonding moment for teachers and students alike. It’s a great way for kids to have fun and forget about the worries of being in school. Some of the entertainment will include DJ Dexter, Magician (for the younger grades), bubbles, sidewalk chalk, sports activities, lots of other activities too! The 5th - 8th grade classrooms will attend from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Pre-K-4th grade will attend from 12:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. All Prussing students will be able to attend and it’s something they don’t want to miss! Red Nose Day
As you may have heard from the morning announcements, Red Nose Day is Thursday, May 25th, 2017. On this day, students are able to wear a plastic or rubber, red nose, available for purchase at Walgreens stores for $1, to show their support and spread awareness. This idea was brought up by Prussing’s after-school Student Council, run by Mrs. Elouadrhiri - room 111. When meeting with the members of The Student Council, they announced their eagerness to spread the message of helping children who live in poverty and suffer tragic illnesses, which is where the idea of Red Nose Day at Prussing came up. They want the whole school to get involved, so wearing a red nose this day is a great way to show your support and care! |
